The Caterpillar PM-465 cold planer was developed for milling existing pavement during road repair and reconstruction. A rotating cutting drum removes a controlled layer of asphalt or other surface material, while a conveyor transfers the milled material into a truck for hauling or recycling. Cold planing can restore pavement profiles, remove damaged surfaces and prepare roads for new asphalt without excavating the entire roadway. The machine’s depth control and material-handling systems are central to efficient resurfacing operations. Cold planers became essential equipment as pavement recycling and rehabilitation grew more common.
