International Harvester introduced the TD-24 crawler tractor in the late 1940s as a large, heavy-duty machine designed for demanding earthmoving and construction work. Powered by a diesel engine, the TD-24 was built to handle tough jobs such as land clearing, grading, and pushing heavy loads. Its tracked undercarriage provided traction and stability on rough or uneven terrain. Specialized attachments expanded the crawler’s usefulness beyond standard earthmoving, including pipelaying equipment used to lift, position, and lower heavy pipe during infrastructure projects. Superior equipment was associated with specialized machinery for industrial and construction applications. Together, a heavy crawler and pipelayer attachment represented the type of equipment used on major pipeline projects, where controlled lifting and dependable traction were essential.
