The Oliver 2255 was manufactured from 1972 through 1976 and represented one of the largest and most powerful conventional agricultural tractors produced under the Oliver name. Introduced during an era when American farmers were transitioning toward larger equipment and higher-horsepower tractors, the 2255 was powered by a Caterpillar 3150 V8 diesel engine with approximately 636 cubic inches of displacement. This powerful engine produced roughly 140 horsepower at the power take-off, providing the strength necessary for demanding field operations. The tractor featured a substantial drivetrain, heavy-duty rear tires, and an elongated engine hood that accommodated its distinctive V8 powerplant. Farmers relied on the Oliver 2255 for heavy plowing, disking, cultivating, and pulling large tillage implements across expansive agricultural fields. Some tractors were equipped with rollover protective structures, commonly known as ROPS, which were designed to provide an important measure of operator protection in the event of a rollover when used with a seat belt. The 2255 was produced during Oliver's transition into the White Farm Equipment organization, making it an important machine from the final years of Oliver-branded tractor production. Its Caterpillar V8 engine, commanding appearance, recognizable green and white styling, and relatively short production period have helped establish the Oliver 2255 as a memorable tractor among vintage agricultural equipment enthusiasts. Today, surviving examples are appreciated for their distinctive engineering, powerful performance, and place in American farming history.
