John Deere introduced the Model LA in 1941, and it remained in production through 1946. Designed for smaller farms and lighter agricultural work, the LA was a compact tractor powered by a two-cylinder gasoline engine producing approximately 10 drawbar horsepower. It was suited to jobs such as cultivating, mowing, and other general farm chores. Spring cultivators used flexible spring-mounted shanks to work the soil between crop rows, helping control weeds while loosening the ground around growing plants. Combining a compact tractor with a cultivating implement reflects the practical equipment farmers relied on during the 1940s.
