Real Life Machine
Built in 1892 by inventor John Froelich in Iowa, the Froelich Gasoline Tractor is recognized as the first successful gasoline-powered tractor capable of moving both forward and in reverse under its own power. Powered by a single-cylinder gasoline engine producing about 20 horsepower, it was created to power threshing operations more efficiently than steam engines. Although only one was built, its groundbreaking design helped pave the way for the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company, which later became part of John Deere.
