International Harvester manufactured the Farmall 1206 from 1965 through 1967 at its Rock Island, Illinois, tractor plant. The 1206 was a groundbreaking machine, becoming International Harvester's first production row-crop tractor to exceed 100 PTO horsepower. Powered by a turbocharged DT361 six-cylinder diesel engine with 361 cubic inches of displacement, it produced approximately 112 PTO horsepower and 95 drawbar horsepower in official testing. The 1206 was designed for demanding agricultural applications, including heavy tillage, planting, and pulling large implements. Its distinctive red and white paint scheme, powerful turbocharged engine, and available Torque Amplifier transmission made it popular among farmers seeking greater productivity. Cab-equipped tractors offered additional protection from weather, while dual rear wheels improved traction and stability during heavy fieldwork. Today, the Farmall 1206 remains one of the most recognizable and desirable classic International Harvester tractors, celebrated for its engineering, performance, and lasting influence on high-horsepower agricultural machinery.
