International Harvester developed the 2+2 tractor concept to combine the maneuverability of a row-crop tractor with the traction of four-wheel drive. The 7288 belonged to the late Super 70 Series, introduced in the mid-1980s as IH was approaching the end of its independent agricultural machinery era. Its unusual arrangement placed the engine ahead of the articulated joint and the operator behind it. The design offered strong traction for heavy tillage while retaining a narrower profile than some large articulated tractors. Production was limited, helping make the 7288 an especially sought-after machine among International Harvester collectors.
