The International Harvester 1026 was introduced for the 1969 model year and became part of IH's high-horsepower tractor lineup. It was equipped with a six-cylinder diesel engine and hydrostatic transmission, allowing the operator to vary ground speed smoothly without shifting through conventional gears. The 1026 was designed for demanding agricultural work, including tillage and other heavy field operations. In 1970, International Harvester used its Gold Demonstrator program to promote selected tractors with distinctive gold paint. These demonstration machines helped attract attention to IH equipment and its hydrostatic-drive technology. The Wheatland configuration featured styling intended for broad-acre farming rather than narrow row-crop cultivation, making it a distinctive variation for collectors of International Harvester tractors.
