Real Life Machine
J. I. Case became a leading manufacturer of steam traction engines during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These machines used coal, wood or other fuel to heat water and produce steam pressure for moving the engine and powering belt-driven equipment. Case steam engines were widely used for threshing grain, sawmilling and heavy agricultural work. A canopy helped shade the operator while working near the hot boiler. Surviving Case steam engines are now treasured at historic machinery shows and threshing reunions.
